After the containment measures decided by Quebec against the Omicron variant, nine artists’ associations are asking Ottawa to make available the new Canadian service provided for in Bill C-2 adopted by the Senate.
The benefit provides allowances of $ 300 per week for employees and self-employed workers deprived of resources due to the closure of their workplace.
The artists’ cry of distress comes the day after the containment measures decided by the Legault government, leading to the closure of performance halls.
Among the organizations are the National Federation of Communications and Culture, the Association of Performing Arts Producers, the Quebec Association of Autrices and Dramatic Authors, the Association of Directors and Directors of Quebec,
The Guide for Musicians of Quebec, the Society of Radio, Television and Cinema Authors, the Workers and Collective Workers of the Arts, Culture and Events, the Union of Artists and the Union of Writers and Writers Quebecers are also part of the group that called Ottawa.
“Depending on the new confinement measures announced by the Quebec government, it is urgent that the federal government make this new service provided for in the event of confinement accessible for all affected artists, including self-employed workers,” said spokespersons for associations.
“A very high proportion of the artists affected by the closure of performance halls are self-employed. Since the end of the PCRE in October, they have not been entitled to any income supplement program, Ottawa not having had time to materialize the transitional measures promised to them, ”they added.
