close to the front facing the Russian army, a Ukrainian doctor supplies the soldiers

In the middle of a room full of boxes, Veronika in military fatigues shows a big smile. “We have just loaded a vehicle which is leaving for Makariv. The city has just been liberated. Normally, we supply the soldiers on the front line but there we had to help the civilians”.

Since Lvivthe logistics platform of this war in ukraine, it conveys the precious parcels to the front lines. EHe leaves as close as possible to the fights with “chargers, batteries, torches, batteries, medicines for mobile hospitals which have multiplied in recent days, because there are many injured”.

According to Veronika, the most”indispensable at the moment are drones. We are in the process of changing supplier because everyone had started buying Chinese. But, she explains, China has just blocked certain essential functions in Ukraine. Which makes them harder for our guys to use now.” So with the other volunteers, “we are starting to work on US drone deliveries. They are of better quality and they have more features. And I don’t think the Americans are going to cut us out.” she adds, laughing.

Veronika recounts the commitment of Ukrainian women, fighters as tenacious as the men on the front lines but also, when death lurks, confidants “guys”as she calls them. “This war has nothing to do with that of Donbass”compares Veronika because in the Donbass, “the use of aviation was not so massive”.

“At the time, it was more a war of position. We were in our trenches. Today the front moves all the time. There is a lot of fighting in the towns and villages.”

“It’s more complicated than in the fields where we were, that’s the big difference”, she concludes. The young woman fought in the east between 2015 and 2018, in the 93 brigade. She was injured. A few years later, Veronika is again taking risks: she has just narrowly escaped a strike during her last delivery to the front not far from Kyiv. We all knew that Putin wouldn’t stop there, but we never imagined that he would want to strike everywhere so massively, so madly”. Today Ukrainians are much better trained and equipped. Veronika has no doubts about the outcome of this war: “My first name is Veronika, and Nika is victory”.
