As extreme weather events intensify, nearly 200 heads of state and government are expected in Egypt for COP 27.

Over 35,000 participants from 200 countries will gather in Egypt for COP 27 during the week of Monday 7 November. One of the climate challenges is to manage to contain global warming below 1.5°C by the end of the century. For the moment, the trajectory would rather be around 2.8°C. The other objectives of COP 27 are to increase the commitments of States, to better finance poor countries in their fight against climate change, but also to compensate them for irreversible damage.

An ambitious project in a disrupted geopolitical context. The war in Ukraine has created an economic, food and energy crisis pushing countries to make choices. Over the next few days, several heads of state are expected: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and new Brazilian President Lula, who has pledged to preserve the Amazon rainforest. For his part, Chinese President Xi Jinping will be absent, while his country remains the biggest polluter on the planet.
