Clément Noël wins gold in the slalom in Alpine skiing

Frenchman Clément Noël won gold in the alpine skiing slalom event at the Beijing Olympics on Wednesday. He beat Austrian Johannes Strolz, 2nd, and Norwegian Sebastian Foss-Solebagg, 3rd.

Sixth after the first round, the 24-year-old Vosgien, licensed at Val d’Isère, set the best time in the second round. He is the first Frenchman crowned in alpine skiing since Antoine Dénériaz in 2006 (downhill).

The 13th French medal

The resorts of Val d’Isère, Courchevel and the entire French camp had their eyes turned towards the Yanking slalom course to witness this 13th French medal.

So far, Clément Noël has been going through a complicated winter, with only one victory in slalom, at his home in Val d’Isère on December 12th.
