Montreal’s two main school service centers confirmed on Saturday that classes will resume on Tuesday, January 9, according to the schedule in effect in each establishment. This announcement follows the agreements in principle reached between the unions and the Quebec government earlier this week.
The Montreal School Service Center (CSSDM) and the Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Service Center (CSSMB) have also planned an educational day the day before, January 8, to allow schools to prepare for the return of students, in particular by developing a “learning catch-up plan”.
CSSDM schools will welcome preschool and primary school students registered for daycare during this educational day. The school service center also specifies that the ministerial exams scheduled for January are postponed to a later date, which is not indicated.
The CSSMB mentions, for its part, that “the modalities relating to the return to school (daycare, transport, extracurricular activities, cafeteria, internships, etc.) and to the services offered at primary level during the educational day of January 8 will be sent to parents and adult students during the week of 1er January “.
On Friday, the Laval School Service Center (CSSL) also confirmed that its schools will be on an educational day on January 8. The CSSL did not, however, indicate a return to class date, adding that “details will be communicated [à cet effet] by email and on [son] website no later than January 5, 2024.
Remember that the Autonomous Federation of Education, which represents 66,500 teachers, announced Thursday evening that it had reached an agreement in principle with the employer side, which put an end to its indefinite general strike launched on November 23. The Common Front, which represents 420,000 workers, agreed the same day with Quebec on a proposed agreement in principle on the salary conditions of its members.
