In Germany, public employees have obtained a salary increase to cope with inflation.
The amount is substantial for the nearly 2.5 million public sector employees in Germany who work for both the state and local authorities: + 5.5% increase. And this, thanks, too, to weeks of social movements. The increase will take place from March 2024, but from next month there will be the payment in several tranches of exceptional inflation compensation for a total amount of 3,000 euros.
A hard-negotiated compromise
This agreement is the result of a harshly negotiated compromise with the unions, which demanded up to 10% wage increases in line with the peak of inflation recorded in Germany during the course of last year.
