Cincinnati Bengals advance to Super Bowl

Evan McPherson made a 31-yard field goal with 9:22 and the Cincinnati Bengals came from behind to win 27-24 against the Kansas City Chiefs in the All-American Final on Sunday, securing a a place in the Super Bowl for the first time in 33 years.

The Bengals rallied from an 18-point deficit — tying an AFC Finals record — to take a 24-21 lead. Harrison Butker’s 44-yard kick as the final seconds ticked away forced overtime. Butker played the same trick the previous week against the Buffalo Bills with a 49-yard field goal in the final moments of the game.

A week after Bills quarterback Josh Allen picked the wrong side of the coin to start overtime — giving the ball to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs — Bengals backup quarterback Brandon Allen also lost in the draw.

The Chiefs went into overtime with the ball, but Vonn Bell intercepted Mahomes’ pass after a third down and then Joe Burrow and the Bengals got the upper hand.

The Bengals will take part in the Super Bowl for the first time since January 1989.

The Bengals (13-7) will face the San Francisco 49ers or the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl on February 13 in Los Angeles.

Mahomes and the Chiefs (14-6) had the chance to play in a third straight Super Bowl.
