Who would dare to devour spaghetti topped with marshmallows and Smarties for lunch? Buddy, an elf who thrives on the four recognized food groups at the North Pole, namely sweets, barley sugars, chocolate and syrup.





In the movie The Elf (The Elf), published in 2003, we follow the New York misadventures of this human who grew up in Santa Claus’ workshop.

While the friendly and very candid character played by Will Ferrell is staying with his biological father, he prepares, one morning, this breakfast for sugar lovers.

“It’s a film that really made me laugh a lot. Will Ferrell is someone who unsettles me with his crazy humor, “says Caroline Savard, author of the book. “Wow” desserts – 75 recipes that are too fun to cook with children.

When The Press offered to recreate a recipe inspired by a Christmas movie, her choice naturally fell on Buddy’s wacky pasta dish. “His spaghetti didn’t make sense, but he seemed to like it so much. I thought it was a must to recreate. »

In The Elf, the dish topped with maple syrup and chocolate coulis that Buddy devours is composed of pasta. In her version, Caroline Savard preferred to opt for… ice cream. “I wanted to find a way to make it look like spaghetti without actually being spaghetti. I wanted to be sure that it appealed to a majority, ”explains the one who is behind the blog of recipes and activities for the Wooloo family.

She’s thought about making long gummies, but that’s not the most enjoyable food to chew, she told herself. “I wanted something smoother. From there was born the idea of ​​the ice cream sundae.

Her secret to turning ice cream into spaghetti? The potato masher used to make rice potatoes. “It takes a lot of work, but once the spaghetti starts to form, it becomes easier to pull out,” says Caroline Savard.

Ice Cream Spaghetti can be created ahead of time and stored in the freezer until ready to serve.

The designer, who is currently working on a first children’s novel, then suggests assembling the sundae to share in the center of the table. “You put the toppings on the table and the whole family can help put all the ingredients together. In the very simple recipe she offers, she chose the same sweets as Buddy. However, you can vary the toppings as you wish.

Preparation

  1. Insert a scoop of ice cream into the masher to form spaghetti. Place them in a plate previously cooled in the freezer. Repeat until all the ice cream is shaped like spaghetti.
