Christmas in isolation for Omicron variant contact cases? Olivier Véran announces new rules …

The record number of 88,000 new cases were identified in the day of December 23 alone. This Thursday, on Christmas Eve, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran took the floor to announce that “the rules will probably change” in relation to the health situation.

Omicron upsets the end of the year

And for good reason, explains the member of the government, “each time a new variant appears, measurements are taken. When the Omicron variant appeared, drastic isolation, contact tracing and sequencing measures were taken to be able to prevent this variant from entering the territory. From now on, it circulates and it is brought to be majority“.

This time, after a last turn of the screw for primary schools and nightclubs in particular, it is the contact persons who will see the protocol harden. Olivier Véran indeed announces that he has “asked the Scientific Council for all the necessary expertise for the start of the coming week in order to determine the new isolation methods “.

Currently the concerned do not have to respect an isolation if they are vaccinated. For the Omicron, it is more complicated, the isolation begins at 7 days immediately and necessarily, and can go up to 17 days, vaccinated or not, if the infected person lives in the same household as you. To avoid “a phenomenon of paralysis of the country”, Olivier Véran is considering a solution with the competent authorities.

“The rules will probably change

If the nursing staff is kept in “draconian security conditions“, during this 5th wave, “there are anticipation cells at all levels to allow the country to turn.” And Olivier Véran to conclude, “the rules will probably change but I can’t tell you how that will change yet.”
