Christine Beaulieu likes Mitis salmon

She has multiplied the characters in cinema and television, and has just won a Gémeaux prize for her role in The eye of the storm and publishes the ecological illustrated book Miti salmon; Christine Beaulieu finds herself in a “beautiful whirlwind” of her career.

After the “documentary piece” I like Hydro in 2016, Christine Beaulieu approaches again, but from a completely new angle, our relationship with nature in the book Miti salmon illustrated by Caroline Lavergne.

Ecological sensitivity

This work is the literary adaptation of the documentary show that Christine presented at the Jardins de Métis in 2021 and 2022. It exposes the force of nature through the incredible story of the salmon of the Mitis River.

“We start with 8,000 eggs and we follow what happens to them. It becomes touching, we see all the obstacles encountered by the salmon and we realize that we, humans, make their lives even more difficult and more perilous by doing many things to harm their journey,” says the defendant actress of nature.

The goal of this new project? Make people aware of the fact that humans are the only species capable of putting themselves in the shoes of another. “That has to come with responsibility, right? » asks the woman who met the illustrator Caroline Lavergne during a film shoot in the Far North of Quebec.

“I think that I am inevitably linked to these kinds of subjects which, however, are in some way imposed on me,” continues the author who has discovered a sensitivity to ecological causes over the years.

“My interest in a subject comes from the feeling they give me. These are not defined or chosen subjects; they happen and when it comes to brew inside you, it becomes your subject. The story of the Mitis salmon touched my insides,” adds the woman who shares her life with actor Roy Dupuis, who is co-founder of the Fondation Rivières (an environmental organization for the protection of Quebec’s rivers).

The show from which this work is based will be presented again at Métis next July. In Montreal, it will be shown under the open sky, in front of the Biodôme water basin, also in July.

Christine Beaulieu chose to dedicate Salmon from the Mitis River to his mother. She also delivered a moving tribute to him during her acceptance speech at the last Gémeaux gala.

“She went through a health challenge in the last year and it highlighted the love and admiration I have for her. I also dedicated the book to my mother, because it is the story of a female salmon who comes to lay her eggs in her native river and who must encounter all kinds of challenges,” she says with emotion.

On the screen

Very busy, Christine Beaulieu will once again slip into the shoes of investigator Simone Vallier in the series Cerebum, production of the third season of which will begin next January. She is currently filming the sequel to The eye of the storm, which according to her is the funniest of the four seasons.

“Her daughter moves with her boyfriend, her children grow up, she questions what she likes to do as a woman. She questions whether she enjoys her job planning weddings while divorced, and about her romantic relationship. The character of Véro [Véronique Cloutier, sa sœur dans la série] experiences reversals by meeting a man who is not at all his type and Jules discovers a sport in which he can be a hero,” she reveals.

As for the camping scenes with actor Luc Senay (Isabelle’s stepfather), they are among the funniest than the actress – who has a small role in the film Simple like Sylvain by Monia Chokri – had to play.

-The book Miti salmon by Christine Beaulieu and Caroline Lavergne is in bookstores.

-The original works of Caroline Lavergne are displayed on the walls of the Arsenal contemporary art café, until October 8. The exhibition is free.
