Christine and the Queens will not be at the Montreal Jazz Festival this year

The singer Christine and the Queens will not perform at the Montreal International Jazz Festival: his show on July 8 should be postponed to a later date, while that of July 9 is canceled.

The organization of the festival made the announcement on its social networks. “We are unfortunately obliged to cancel the two Christine and the Queens shows scheduled for July 8 and 9. However, we are happy to report that Red will soon be back in town. Save your tickets for now. The organization of the festival refers here to one of the stage names of Christine and the Queens, who also goes by the pseudonym of Redcar.

The artist was to perform two consecutive evenings at the MTelus, downtown. This is the second cancellation of a festival headliner: American singer Macy Gray announced this week that her show, scheduled for Saturday evening at the Place des Festivals, would not take place. The Spectra team, which is in charge of the FIJM, did not wish to grant an interview to the Duty.

The singer must also perform at the Festival d’été de Québec on July 11.

victim of transphobia

This announcement comes at the end of a trying sequence for the artist, who announced his trans identity in 2022 and who at the same time confirmed his identification with male pronouns.

On June 28, on the social network TikTok, he launched a cry from the heart by talking about the transphobia of which he is a victim, pointing out that several people continue to use feminine pronouns to refer to him. “It’s just a lack of respect. […] Sometimes I get up in the morning and I’m angry, I want to cry, ”he says with emotion. “I’ve been much less publicized since I opened my mouth about my trans identity,” he continues. My upgrade artistic, you don’t even notice it, and you call me “her”. »

The artist, whose video has accumulated more than a million views on TikTok, concludes with an unequivocal message: “Sometimes I want to tell you “fuck you, actually”. »
