Inflation also affects chocolate, in shops and in supermarkets.

At a time when all prices are rising, supermarket promotions play competition in Grigny, in the Rhône. Despite everything, customers are already helping themselves as Easter approaches. “Prices have increased. Above all, with four children, chocolate comes… after!” says a mother. Professionals are also forced to adapt, like this chocolatier from Villefranche-sur-Saône (Rhône), hit by inflation. In one year, cocoa has increased by 10 to 20%, butter and milk by 20% and sugar by up to 40%.

“In one year, we have reviewed our prices at least three or four times”

“All our rooms are trimmed, here we are going to put a little less, we are going to favor the visual and the work that is around and we put a little less trim inside”, says Bruno Saladino, chocolate maker. On the other hand, even by cutting back on its margins, it was obliged to increase certain products. “In one year, we have reviewed our prices at least three or four times”, says Bruno Saladino. The French consume an average of 20 euros worth of chocolates at Easter, but this year the economic context could change habits.
