The Covid-19 epidemic is shaking the Beijing government and the population, which is angry at the repression and strict confinement. Surreal scenes take place every day.
Police or civil servants, they do not go overboard to find any contact cases or positive cases for Covid-19. Videos show them forcing people’s doors in order to force their way home. This kind of video appears every day on Chinese sites. They are then quickly censored. Shanghai has been on lockdown since late March, but there are still more than a thousand cases of Covid-19.
The restrictions are getting tougher. The city is unrecognizable, barricaded. Some end up in cages, with wooden panels installed in front of buildings in which people have tested positive. More than twenty cities are confined and tested, as well as foods such as fish or salads. The airport is almost empty, with only three planes departing from Shanghai. Many expatriates only took a one-way ticket to France.
