Chicago Blackhawks | Jujhar Khaira leaves the ice on a stretcher

Chicago Blackhawks forward Jujhar Khaira came off the ice on a stretcher after being punched by New York Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba on Tuesday night.

The Blackhawks have simply confirmed that Khaira suffered an “upper body” injury. He was taken by ambulance to Northwestern Hospital for further examinations.

Khaira’s head was down as he picked up a puck between his skates in the second period, and Trouba appeared to hit him in the chin and chest with his right shoulder. Khaira’s head bounced off the ice, and he lay for a long time, motionless.

Medics evacuated Kahira, under the worried gaze of both teams, some of his teammates kneeling beside him. His situation is all the more worrying given that Khaira has a history of concussions.

Trouba was not punished on the streak, but got into a fight with Riley Stillman about two minutes later.
