With a World Cup in Qatar this fall (November 21 to December 18), the Premier League has had to adapt. However, the event did not get the better of the traditional Boxing Day, as shown by the calendar for the 2022-2023 season unveiled on Thursday June 16. The English championship will take a break after November 12, but will resume on December 26, eight days after the World Cup final.

In the opening match, on August 5, Arsenal moved to Crystal Palace. For this first day the defending champion, Manchester City, goes to West Ham, seventh last season, on August 7th. For their return to the Premier League 23 years after their last appearance, Nottingham Forest (twice winner of the C1 in 1979 and 1980) will go to Newcastle.

The first shock of the season will come the following week, with Chelsea-Tottenham, two teams qualified for the next Champions League after finishing respectively in 3rd and 4th place. On the 3rd day, another great poster is expected with Manchester United-Liverpool (August 20).

The Red Devils, with their new coach Erik ten Hag, will host the Gunners on September 3 during a weekend which will also take place in the Mersey derby between Everton and Liverpool. The Manchester derby will be held on October 1 in City’s lair. Pep Guardiola’s men will travel to arch-rivals Liverpool on October 15. The two teams had finished their sprint with a single point difference at the end of the 38 days of the 2021-2022 season.
