A few weeks ago, the Government of Quebec launched an advertising campaign featuring the peregrine falcon to raise public awareness of the misuse of Anglicisms. The message ended as follows: “In Quebec, French is in decline. Let’s reverse the trend. »
The government is currently carrying out a broad consultation aimed at fueling reflection on the future of the French language in Quebec. The first question of the survey reads as follows: “In your opinion, what can the government of Quebec do to slow down, stop and reverse the trend of the decline of French? »
However, against all logic, this same government has not found anything better than “ Check your glass” to name the campaign he has just launched to reduce the risk of GHB poisoning!
How can a government that invites us to avoid Anglicisms and that claims to want to “slow down, stop and reverse the trend of the decline of French” afford to debase the French language in this way? This choice is in total contradiction with the government’s rhetoric, and also and above all demonstrates a flagrant lack of respect not only for our language, but also for its speakers and the citizens we are.
