Charlevoix | Two people seriously injured after mountain biking fell off cliff

(Les Éboulements) Two people are seriously injured following an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident in Charlevoix on Tuesday evening.

An intervention is still in progress, in the evening, in order to extricate the two men from their machine, which fell on a railway line in the municipality of Les Éboulements around 7:30 p.m.

They were traveling in a two-seater autoquad type mountain bike on a footpath “when they would have fallen from a very steep cliff to find themselves on the railway line at the height of the west entrance to the tunnel”, explains the door- word of the Sûreté du Québec, Béatrice Dorsainville.

The railway tunnel in question is located in Cap Martin, between the hamlets of Les Éboulements-Centre and Cap-aux-Oies, along the shore. No road goes there.

The driver was seriously injured and is in critical condition. The passenger would also have suffered very serious injuries, but his life would not be in danger, according to Sergeant Dorsainville.

The SQ has deployed teams on mountain bikes as well as patrollers, who work with firefighters, paramedics, as well as a railway maintenance company equipped with a rail vehicle.
