The arrival of the Los Angeles Kings in Charlevoix is becoming more and more valid. Clermont Mayor Luc Cauchon confirms to Le Charlevoisien that the National Hockey League (NHL) organization will hold a practice at the Clermont arena on October 7.
“It’s a nice surprise. I was happy when my recreation director told me the news […] “Having a National League team in the region is always nice,” says Luc Cauchon.
For now, it is not yet possible to know the exact time of this said practice or if the latter will be able to take place in front of an audience. “In my opinion, it will be open to the public […] “We are really looking forward to showing the amphitheater to the public,” said Mayor Cauchon.
This visit by the City of Angels organization in Charlevoix will also coincide with activities also planned at the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu. A round of golf on the Fairmont course is among other things planned in their schedule.
This is not Clermont’s first time hosting an NHL team on the ice of its arena. In the past, the Montreal Canadiens held a practice in front of an audience in 2010.
The Los Angeles Kings will hold their training camp in Quebec City in early October. They will also play two preseason games at the Videotron Centre against the Boston Bruins and the Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.
The club’s visit to Quebec soil had caused an outcry last November. The Quebec government had announced a subsidy of between 5 and 7 million for the team’s stay, in the midst of negotiations with government employees.
