“Chamber music for horn”, Louis-Philippe Marsolais

From July 24 to 29 will take place in Montreal on the 55e International horn symposium, to which is added a festival of more than 100 events. This largest gathering of horn players in the country in history aims to bring together 200 artists and 400 participants. It will culminate at the Festival de Lanaudière on July 28 with the Konzertstück for four horns of Schumann and the Alpine Symphony by Strauss conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin starring Stefan Dohr, Sarah Willis, Yun Zeng and Louis-Philippe Marsolais, respectively horn players of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Berlin Staatskapelle and the Orchester Métropolitain. The opportunity was ideal for Marsolais to simultaneously publish this program, produced in particular from adaptations of compositions for violin and piano by Clara (romance op. 22), as well as for oboe (romance op. 94) and clarinet (Fantasyistücke op. 73) by Robert Schumann. Even if everything is impeccably played, and recorded with the necessary distance, you have to love the instrument passionately so as not to be overwhelmed by some weariness.
