Small’s field goal, his fifth of the game, capped a six-play, 45-yard streak for the Tiger-Cats. Backup quarterback Matt Shiltz set the stage for the game-winning field goal with a 25-yard run.

The Tiger-Cats (7-10) edged the Saskatchewan Roughriders (6-10) in the battle for the third and final East Division playoff spot. The Roughriders will face the Calgary Stampeders (10-6) on Saturday night.

No matter what the Roughriders do, however, the Tiger-Cats could secure third place by beating the Rouge et Noir next week. The Ottawa troupe hasn’t won any of its eight outings at TD Place this season.

Caleb Evans set a CFL record for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in a single season. The Rouge et Noir quarterback had two majors on the run, which increased his total to 15.

Evans broke the record of 14 rushing touchdowns set by Doug Flutie in 1991. James Franklin tied it in 2018.

The Rouge et Noir scored all their points with the wind at their back, 21 in the second quarter and six in the fourth. The Tiger-Cats scored 13 points with the wind at their backs, but added 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Dane Evans gave the Tiger-Cats a 24-21 lead in the 22e second of the fourth quarter. Lewis Ward made a 36-yard field goal to bring both teams back to square one.

With just over six minutes remaining, Small completed a 27-yard field goal, but Ward responded with a 51-yard field goal to tie the game at 27-27.
