(Montreal) CF Montreal lost the services of offensive stalwart Djordje Mihailovic in Saturday night’s game against FC Cincinnati at Stade Saputo following a left ankle injury that occurred early in the first half.
Posted at 8:32 p.m.
Mihailovic was first injured in the third minute of play while trying to counter an opposing player in defensive territory.
Lying on the ground and visibly in pain, Mihailovic immediately raised his hand to ask for help. After a few minutes and after receiving a visit from the trainer, the American midfielder was able to get up and resume his place with his teammates.
However, during the 16e minute of play, Mihailovic fell on the lawn after attempting a pass into opposing territory. Annoyed, he left the playing surface and was replaced by Ahmed Hamdi.
The management of CF Montreal has not issued an update as to the precise nature of the injury.
Author of seven goals and four assists in 14 games this season, including 13 as a starter, including Saturday’s game, Mihailovic has proven to be a leader at CF Montreal since the start of the year, to the point where his name has already started circulating for the title of most valuable player to his team in MLS.
His performances so far this year have also earned him a call-up to the United States national team for the Concacaf Nations League tournament which will begin in the next few days.
