According to a press release published by the BEI, on Sunday, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) arrested the man around midnight, on the night of Saturday to Sunday, for driving while impaired in Disraeli, in about forty kilometers from Saint-Ferdinand.

“The man would have been transported to the SQ station, where he provided the breath samples which would have revealed that he exceeded the permitted limit”, we continue.

After being released, the SQ agents reportedly brought him back to his home in Saint-Ferdinand. Then, around 4 a.m., a relative of the man allegedly informed the police force that he was worried about his safety because of the suicidal remarks he allegedly made.

Leak in a wooded area

The police would therefore have returned to the home to meet the man who would have fled in a nearby wooded area when the officers arrived.

A search was undertaken after he was lost to sight. Then, around 7:52 a.m., he was reportedly found unresponsive. Despite resuscitation maneuvers undertaken on the spot, his death was confirmed in the hospital.

Five BEI investigators were tasked with investigating the circumstances of the event.
