Céline Dion, naturally, poses, as rarely before, alongside her three sons and discusses the illness from which she has suffered since 2022

After months spent in silence avoiding cameras and social networks, Celine Dion is slowly starting to make people talk about her again. The Canadian star, who has been fighting stiff person syndrome since 2022, made a notable return to the international spotlight a little over a month ago, by agreeing to present an award to Taylor Swift on the Grammy Awards stage. This Saturday, March 16, 2024, Céline Dion posted a hopeful message on Instagram, publishing a photo in which she appears more natural than ever. On the latter, the happy mother poses alongside her eldest son René-Charles, with whom she has experienced some conflicts in recent months, and his twins Nelson and Eddy.

“Today the world celebrates International SPS Awareness Day”explained Celine Dion. SPS is the nickname given to her illness, stiff person syndrome, which she has been fighting against since fall 2022: “As many of you know, in the fall of 2022 I was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS). Trying to overcome this autoimmune disease has been one of the most difficult experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day return to the stage and lead a life as normal as possible. I am deeply grateful for the love and support of my children, my family, my team and all of you!” she declared.

A progressive, incurable and fatal disease

And to conclude, more enthusiastic and positive than ever : “I want to send my encouragement and support to everyone around the world who has been affected by SPS. I want you to know that you can get through this, WE can get through this!”
There is currently no cure for stiff person syndrome, and symptoms worsen over time. It is characterized by progressive stiffness of all the muscles of the body, mainly those of the trunk, which gets worse month after month. Disease with difficult diagnosis, it is lethal in 100% of caseswith a progressive and fatal evolution usually understood between 6 and 15 years old.
