In the Antilles, the number of people infected with the dengue virus continues to increase this Monday, September 11. In Guadeloupe and Martinique, three people died.

With the return of dengue, Guadeloupeans are on alert. A mother carefully monitors the water points in her garden, for fear of being contaminated by the mosquito. “We use products, anything that is disinfectant, bleach”, she explains. Since the start of the year, 6 people have died from dengue fever in Guadeloupe and Martinique, where hospitalizations have been increasing in recent weeks.

No treatment exists

“We can have a serious form of dengue fever because we are on fragile ground, for example when we have sickle cell anemia, when we are a young child, an elderly person”, specifies Anne Crique-Hayot, president of the Regional Union of Liberal Doctors of Martinique. The authorities remind the population of the actions to adopt: eliminate stagnant water, wear long clothes and use repellents. Currently, there is no treatment for dengue fever.
