Can’t miss on Netflix

Don’t know what to watch on Netflix anymore? Here are some suggestions from our journalists.

Emily in Paris, season 3

This third season ofEmily in Paris is still as bizarre as ever. The costumes are even more delirious, and this time, we give more space to the other characters in the series, which gives them a little more depth.

Kaleidoscope

Is it a super original canvas production? No. But is it fun entertainment? Yes. Insert here a final punch – and zero original – which will say that this Kaleidoscope will make you see all the colors.

Hugo Dumas

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

We will not reveal anything about the plot, but we can still point out the mastery that Rian Johnson shows to carry out his story. Daniel Craig, a thousand leagues from James Bond, obviously takes great pleasure in portraying this detective with a strong accent, as well as all those around him, starting with Janelle Monáe. Several personalities also gratify the film with a short presence, including Ethan Hawke in the role of a COVID-19 attendant who, in this month of May 2020, really does not intend to laugh…

Marc-Andre Lussier

Bardo, false chronicle of some truths

Punctuated by visually very strong sequences, nourished by very felt social and political observations bardo will no doubt seem too abundant – or too scattered – to achieve unanimity. We could also see it as a fundamentally narcissistic exercise. The fact is that bardo nevertheless includes immense moments of cinema, orchestrated by one of the greatest contemporary filmmakers.

Marc-Andre Lussier

Pinocchio

Even though this Pinocchio, co-directed by Mark Gustafson, has a bit of Frankenstein in it (Guillermo del Toro’s other favorite tale) and has darker sides, but it’s no less bright for all that. The animation is of such quality that the characters become very real on the screen, to the point where the emotion is sometimes poignant. Pinocchiowhich the Mexican filmmaker cogitated for more than 10 years with an army of animators, is without a doubt one of Guillermo del Toro’s greatest successes.

All Quiet on the Western Front

Classically made, In the west, nothing is new obviously does not have the will to renew the genre of war drama, but it is extremely effective. We also welcome the approach of a filmmaker who knew how to evoke horror in a realistic way, without however falling into complacency. Edward Berger also knew how to construct the story in such a way as to offer the spectator a few moments of respite. Note also the presence of excellent young actors, whose relative anonymity on the international level helps to make the story even more authentic in our eyes.

FIFA Uncovered

Under the leadership of Joseph S. Blatter, FIFA became a monster of corruption which, after more than 30 years in office, including 17 as president, finally led to its downfall. This is what emerges from the documentary FIFA Uncovered. The series of four episodes does not teach us anything new. It is rather the succession of facts recalled and exposed, which have occurred over several decades, which sends shivers down the spine.
