Michel Hazanavicius in competition for the Palme d’Or

The director palmed with The Artist returns to competition. His film The most valuable commodity tells the story of a Jewish child who miraculously escapes deportation by being taken in by a family living in a wood.

The team was on the red carpet, notably Dominique Blanc. Jean-Louis Trintignant, who has since passed away, lent his voice to this film which will be released in November.

This is the first animated feature film in competition since Waltz with Bashirby Ari Folman, in 2008. A somewhat forgotten genre at this level of competition.

Symbol of freedom, the Iranian Rasoulof received a standing ovation

Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof, who managed to clandestinely flee the Tehran regime, received a standing ovation before the screening of his film in the running for the Palme d’Or.
Pursued by the Iranian regime which deprived him of his passport and sentenced him to years in prison, Rasoulof presents The seeds of the wild fig treea film shot clandestinely and part of the crew remained in Iran.

On the red carpet and then in the room, Mohammad Rasoulof held up photos of two of his main actors, Missagh Zareh and Soheila Golestani.

He took the steps alongside Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani, who has lived in exile in France for around fifteen years. He was also accompanied by his daughter Baran, a symbolic passing of the baton since it was the latter who received the Golden Bear in Berlin in the name of her father, who was banned from leaving his country four years ago.

After defying censorship for years, Rasoulof was sentenced on appeal to eight years in prison, five of which were applicable.

Meeting with Mr. Lucas

The day was also marked by the masterclass by George Lucas. Lthe father of the saga Star Wars, before he received an honorary Palme d’Or the next day, during the closing ceremony. He spoke with festival-goers about his career.

Documentaries on South Africa and Egypt rewarded

Haitian Raoul Peck’s documentary on a South African photographer during apartheid and Daughters of the Nile about a group of young girls forming a street theater troupe, were rewarded by the Oeil d’or jury.
The two films were crowned ex-aequo by the jury chaired by French director Nicolas Philibert, 24 hours behind the Palme d’Or and the Cannes prize list.

Palm dog in Kodi

Cinemaf Prize

The Short Films and La Cinef Jury chaired by Lubna Azabal and composed of Marie-Castille Mention-Schaar, Paolo Moretti, Claudine Nougaret and Vladimir Perišić awarded the La Cinef prizes during a ceremony, followed by the screening of the films award-winning.

The selection included 18 films by film students chosen from 2,263 candidates from 555 film schools around the world.

The closing ceremony of the 77th Cannes Film Festival will take place in the evening and will be broadcast live on France 2 and internationally on Brut.

Meet at 6:10 p.m.

Laurent Delahousse will offer a special Cannes edition live just before joining Camille Cottin, the mistress of the closing ceremony.
He will be in duplex with Louise Ekland, at the foot of the Marches, Charlotte Lipinska and Augustin Trapenard, inside the room, of the Palais des Festivals.
Laurent Delahousse will receive on stage the composer and performer Zaho de Sagazan who marked the opening ceremony of the Festival by performing “Modern love” by David Bowie. It was a tribute to Greta Gerwig, the president of the Festival jury who will award the Palme d’Or this Saturday evening.
