The Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques is delighted with “the loyalty of (its) broadcaster” Canal+ and “looks forward” to preparing, with it, the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the César ceremony in 2025.

Canal+ will continue to broadcast the César du cinéma ceremony after the renewal of retransmission rights for five years, until 2030, the channel and the organizing academy announced on Monday April 8 in a joint press release. “Canal+ is pleased to continue a partnership of more than thirty years with the Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques, and to continue to exclusively offer the Caesar Ceremony”commented the channel.
“We are delighted with the loyalty of our broadcaster and this partnership, and look forward to calmly continuing our collaboration, particularly for the preparation of the 50th edition of the César ceremony in 2025”for its part estimated the Academy.
This French cinema awards ceremony was created in 1975 and its first edition took place in April 1976. Initially broadcast by the public service (Antenne 2 then France 2), it has been broadcast unencrypted by Canal+ since 1994. The awards ceremony Caesar “is, since its creation, the biggest evening of cinema in France”recalled Maxime Saada, the boss of Canal+ on X.
The 49th César ceremony, organized on January 23, brought together 1.86 million viewers, its best audience since 2020, however far behind the 3.9 million viewers gathered in 2012.
