“Canailles” by Christophe Offenstein, a strange universe always on the razor’s edge

After filming together “En solitaire”, Christophe Offenstein and Francois Cluzet wanted to find another subject. By reading “A canaille and a half”, François Cluzet knew that he held in his hands a crazy novel and a good story for a film adaptation.

Dysfunction of society, singularity of the characters, his satire of everyday life… All the ingredients were there for Christophe Offenstein. The writing work to adapt this novel was long-term, and after 3 years of work with the help of Narjiss Slaoui and Jonathan Koulavsky, the script was finalized.

The story is therefore that of Antoine, injured in the leg following a heist that went wrong, and who disembark by force at Elias to find a hideout. Nothing destined the robber, a trifle anarchist, to cross paths with this uneventful history teacher. A strange relationship then begins between the two men where influence and complicity. But that was without counting on Lucie, the somewhat special investigator in charge of the case…
