(Ottawa) A Canadian officer is presumed dead in an avalanche in Switzerland while on leave, the Canadian Armed Forces said on Sunday.
In a press release released on Sunday, the Forces reported that Captain Sean Thomas has been missing since the avalanche on 1er april.
Local authorities reported that three other people, including a 25-year-old Canadian woman, were killed by the snow slide which broke out in Riffelberg, in an off-piste area near the Matterhorn.
The Armed Forces said Captain Thomas enlisted in 2018 and was a member of the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada, a reserve unit of the 31 Canadian Brigade Group.
He was deployed to Jordan in November and was due to return home next month.
It is unknown if there was a family link between the two Canadians.
