Statistics Canada reports that both service-producing industries and goods-producing industries rose in June, by 0.2% and 0.1% respectively, and that 14 of the 20 activity sectors posted growth.

As the number of international visitors increased in June, the accommodation and food services sector rose 0.8%. Food services and drinking places rose 0.4% in June, but the pace of growth in this subsector has slowed after posting a strong recovery from the Omicron wave of COVID-19 .

The transportation and warehousing sector edged up 0.1% in June. However, Statistics Canada observed that air transport increased by 5.6%.

As for the arts, entertainment and recreation sector, it rose 1.8% in June, up for the fifth consecutive month.

Real estate services declined as home resale activity slowed following interest rate hikes. The construction sector fell 0.4% in June, down for a third consecutive month.

On the other hand, Statistics Canada noted that real GDP increased by 0.8% in the second quarter, mainly due to the increase in business investment in inventories; non-residential structures, machinery and equipment as well as household expenditure on services and semi-durable goods. It was the fourth consecutive quarterly increase in real GDP.

Household spending on semi-durable goods increased by 5.6% in the second quarter, mainly due to increased travel and the fact that a large number of people were back in the office after the lifting of restrictions. confinement.
