After narrowly escaping censorship on Monday March 20, Elisabeth Borne is more weakened than ever at the head of the government. Live from the Élysée, Anne Bourse takes stock of the situation.
Extremely weakened by the pension reform that she forced through by resorting to 49.3, can Élisabeth Borne stay at Matignon? “The Prime Minister must come to the Élysée this evening (Monday March 20) to speak with Emmanuel Macron. They will undoubtedly draw together the conclusions of the result of this motion”reports Anne Bourse. “The executive cannot act as if nothing happened today. It’s complicated for Elisabeth Borne to govern under these conditions”adds the journalist.
An upcoming speech by Emmanuel Macron
“The president cannot continue the thread of his five-year term less than a year after his re-election. He will seek to regain control to break this impasse”explains Anne Bourse. “There is no obvious solution, but Emmanuel Macron should express himself fairly quickly. At least to come back to the French on this episode of pensions and address other subjects such as Education, Health and Employment”she concludes.
