On February 5, 2022, on the occasion of her platinum jubilee, Elizabeth II formalized the future royal status of her daughter-in-law: Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will become queen consort when her husband Prince Charles in turn ascends the throne. An unexpected announcement to which the main interested parties, grateful, quickly responded in a press release sent by Clarence House.
According to information from DailyMail reports on Sunday, Prince Charles had already obtained the agreement of his mother to mention his wife Camilla as “queen” in the speech – prepared in advance – for his future coronation. An agreement that he would have obtained a few years ago. “It’s something that has been on the Prince of Wales’ mind for some time, but the timing had to be right. There was a nervousness, they wanted to get it rightexplained a source of the tabloid. It’s been a done deal for a while, but the question has been how best to execute it.” It’s now done !
For several years now, the royal family has been preparing the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II (95) and the coronation of her son Charles in the smallest details, so that everything is ready in due time. Another element that would already be provided for by the protocol: the coronation of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, who will therefore become queen consort, and not princess consort as initially planned. The wife of the new sovereign should then receive the crown of Queen Mother Elizabeth, wife of George VI, queen consort from 1936 to 1952 and mother of Elizabeth II. The famous crown had notably accompanied his coffin during his funeral in Westminster in 2002 (see slideshow).
