Camaïeu stores in Dordogne lower the curtain

There are people, a lot more than usual this morning. Jacqueline says so. Every day, she comes to do her shopping at Leclerc in Trélissac, and from time to time she stops at Camaïeu, it’s on the way. This morning, there is a queue at the checkout. “It’s because they are closing, I saw it on TV”, breathes Jacqueline. The ready-to-wear giant is placed in compulsory liquidation. And like the brand’s 500 stores, the shops of Trélissac, Marsac and Bergerac will close this Saturday evening.

2,600 employees on the floor

Liliane bought sweaters, a few t-shirts. She knows it’s the last day. In his closet, there is Camaïeu on all floors. Besides, her blue sweater with pretty sequins, “it’s Camaieu”. His burgundy pants too, “it’s Camaieu”. “What do you want… The saleswoman said to me, well, we’re going to bounce back! Well it’s true, she’s young and then there’s demand, but still it’s sad”she says.

“When I was a teenager, I mainly dressed at Camaïeu: pants, dresses, little tops… Just yesterday, I sorted and found Camaïeu clothes that I passed on to my daughter. It’s moving because it’s a page that turns… We won’t be able to do that anymore, it’s the favorite sign that is leaving”adds Virginia.

With the placement in judicial liquidation, 2,600 employees find themselves on the floor. The Minister Delegate for Industry Roland Lescure promised that the State would accompany the employees one by one, but here, no one really believes in it. The four shop assistants refuse to speak on the microphone, it’s too fresh, it happened too quickly. And even if they keep smiling in front of their customers, they know that tonight they will lower the curtain. For the last time.
