Call for proposals for the Quebec-Toronto high-frequency train

Ottawa is issuing a request for expressions of interest regarding the high-frequency train (TGF) project that will connect Quebec City and Toronto.

Transport Minister Omar Alghabra made the announcement Wednesday in Montreal.

The request for advice and views from industry on the TGF project will be posted on buyandsell.gc.ca on Thursday.

Transport Canada said in a statement that the TGF would be the largest transportation infrastructure project in Canada in decades.

The government is therefore looking for “world-class knowledge and private sector expertise for all aspects of the project”.

The department says the government will work with a private sector partner “who prioritizes and recognizes the value of meaningful relationships with Indigenous peoples.”

“Special attention will be paid to taking into account the views of indigenous peoples and communities during the following phases of the project. Collaboration with Indigenous businesses will also be encouraged,” the statement read.

According to Ottawa, high-frequency rail is expected to enter full service in the early 2030s.
