A long-awaited application. The president of the Republicans group in the Senate, Bruno Retailleau, announced his candidacy for the head of the Republicans, Friday, September 2 in the Figaro, evoking his “ability to federate” on a line “popular and patriotic”.
“I will be a candidate for the presidency of the Republicans”, because in the absence of Laurent Wauquiez, “many asked me to introduce myself”says the senator from Vendée, whose candidacy seemed imminent for a few days. The president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Laurent Wauquiez, had given up running for the presidency of his party in mid-July.
“With the activists, I want to build this great right-wing, popular and patriotic party, which France lacks today”launches Bruno Retailleau.
Assuring to have “always sought to bring together”the senator specifies that he is not “candidate against no one”notably not Eric Ciotti and Aurélien Pradié, who “all legitimacy to present themselves”. All three will participate in the LR youth campus, Saturday and Sunday in Angers. However, “this election must not turn into a face-to-face between two camps that would play one-upmanship” because “in our weak state, a frontal impact could break us”he warns.
On his lines of thought, he evokes a “complete change” of the education system and pleads for “more security, less taxes and immigration” with a referendum on this last point “so that the French people reclaim this existential question”.
“We will never be macronists”, launches the senator again, while adding that he judges “common sense” not to do “systematic filibuster”. “I will always reach out to the voters of Marine Le Pen and Eric Zemmour because I will never resign myself to the fact that sincerely right-wing French people have left us”he finally adds.
