He wants “replenish financial reserves” from France. Bruno Le Maire called on the majority, in an interview with South RadioMonday October 9, to clear “one billion euros in additional savings following the parliamentary debate” on the 2024 draft budget. Debates on the 2024 finance bill begin Tuesday in Parliament. “The French economy is holding up wellwelcomed the Minister of Economy and Finance. The most difficult point is our public finances and the debt. When you see that there is something that needs to be corrected, you have to do it.”

“We spent a lot, it was useful and necessary, to deal with the Covid crisis. We avoided tens of thousands of bankruptcies, hundreds of thousands of jobs destroyed, he recalled. Now, if ever there were to be a new crisis, (…) we must rebuild our financial reserves.” “It would be great if France could send this message, government and majority, that we are capable of improving the government’s copy, not with new spending, but with a billion additional savings. This is the ambition that I fixed at our majority”declared Bruno Le Maire again, promising to be “uncompromising on the good performance of our public finances, on the necessary savings and on the acceleration of debt reduction”.
