(Brossard) A pile-up that occurred late Tuesday evening in Montérégie left a very heavy toll: two dead and ten injured.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in a roadwork area on Highway 30 eastbound in Brossard.
According to initial information gathered by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the driver of a heavy truck did not slow down as he should when approaching the work zone located at Grande-Allée Boulevard. He rammed seven of the vehicles ahead of him.
One of the vehicles hit had four occupants. A 42-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy lost their lives, while a 55-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were seriously injured. We fear for their lives.
The collisions injured eight others, all of whom were taken to hospital. The truck driver was treated for nervous shock.
Early in the morning, Wednesday, the Sûreté du Québec could not determine the reason why the driver of the truck could not slow down in time.
Highway 30 to the east was still closed to automobile traffic at daybreak, between the Grande-Allée entrance and Route 112, for an indefinite period. A detour must be made via the local network.
