Many demonstrators gathered on the morning of Saturday February 25 to express their discontent. The actors of the fishing sector are worried about the future, and let it be known.

Saturday, February 25 in the morning, on the port of Pont-l’Abbé (Finistère)fishermen, elected officials and residents gathered to express their dissatisfaction with the post-Brexit scrapping plan. Since Brexit, some French fishermen have been deprived of access to British waters. As a result, most are forced to scrap their old boat. The fleet exit plan funded by Brussels (Belgium) provides for the destruction of 90 boats.

Compensation for each shipowner

These destructions could impact the entire industry, particularly in Pays Bigouden, which lost 26 boats. In return, each shipowner could receive between 95,000 and three million euros per boat, depending on the power of the ship. Indeed, an overall envelope of 65 million euros is provided for this purpose. Beneficiaries of this aid are prohibited from fitting out a new vessel for five years.
