British Columbia Ports | The tentative agreement rejected, the strike resumes

(Vancouver) Employers say union leaders representing BC port workers have rejected a tentative mediator agreement that ended the strike last week.

The British Columbia Maritime Employers Association said the strike resumed Tuesday afternoon.

The association says leaders of the International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union of Canada rejected the deal without putting it to a vote of all members.

The 13-day strike that ended last Thursday involved approximately 7,400 port workers at more than 30 ports and other sites across the province.

The employers’ association says the proposed deal was a four-year collective agreement that included “significant increases in wages and benefits”.

The strike froze billions of dollars worth of goods entering and leaving ports, including Canada’s busiest port in Vancouver.
