In Great Britain, the red alert for “extreme heat” has just been triggered. A first. Those Britons who could turned south, at Bournemouth, towards the beach.

Monday July 18, London (UK) is crushed by extreme temperatures. It is over 40°C. The country is suffocating in the face of the strongest heat wave on record. The heat is extreme outside, but also inside, and even underground, in the London Underground, it is difficult: it is over 30°C. So, British infrastructure is not necessarily adapted to these exceptional temperatures. All flights have been canceled at Luton Airport, north London. The track melted under the effect of the heat. In the stations, there are also many cancellations of trains, because the rails had to resist badly.

Some old bridges even had to be covered with an anti-heat fabric to prevent them from cracking. So the British are adapting, by teleworking for example. Some preferred to flee the large urban areas to go to Bournemouth, on the coast. The fresh sea air is still over 30°C. The situation could be even more complicated on Tuesday July 19, when temperatures are expected to be even higher.
