For the first time in Île-de-France, a wolf has been formally identified. It was photographed in the Yvelines department, where the species had disappeared since the 1930s. Some breeders have been protecting their herds for several years.

The breeders are not very reassured and are trying to protect their herds against the reappearance of wolves in Île-de-France. “For us it is very concrete, it is not at all a myth. For several years, a large part of the organization of the herd has concerned protection against lupine predation.“, explains Claire Larue. She has already seen fifteen of her sheep slaughtered by a wolf, five years ago. Since then, Claire Larue and her husband have installed protective nets, as well as dogs, to protect their animals.

The couple also installed CCTV cameras, which allowed them to see that the wolf no longer attacks their sheep since the arrival of the dogs. However, he roams almost every night around the land dedicated to the herd. To reinforce the protection, the breeders called on a Shepherd, responsible for monitoring the herd seven days a week, and 24 hours a day.
