(Sao Paulo) A bus accident left at least eight dead and 23 injured Thursday in the Brazilian state of Bahia (northeast), according to the Federal Highway Police (PRF).
The bus, which left Rio de Janeiro (southeast) bound for Porto Seguro, a tourist town in southern Bahia, left the road and overturned around 4 a.m. (3 a.m. local time). ‘Est), the PRF told AFP, specifying that 34 people were on board the vehicle.
The authorities did not give details on the state of health of the injured, nor on the nationality of the victims.
Images broadcast in the local press show the white and blue coach lying on the side of the BR-101 highway.
Coach accidents are frequent in Brazil, a continental country where rail transport is very underdeveloped.
