A police officer from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) was hit by a suspicious vehicle during an intervention while the latter was intercepted as part of an attempted vehicle theft on Saturday afternoon, in the parking lot of Galeries d’Anjou.

The fleeing vehicle hit the police officer around 3:15 p.m. on rue Saint-Zotique Est near the roundabout, while he was standing near his car, reported SPVM spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant. The officer then fired at least once at the suspect vehicle.
The police were on the scene after being called to intervene after an attempted vehicle theft in the parking lot of the Galeries d’Anjou.

After hitting the police officer, the suspect vehicle fled and was finally found empty in the parking lot of a shopping center on Langelier Boulevard, near Bélanger Street.
The assaulted policeman was transported to a hospital, before being discharged in the evening.

The SPVM investigation led to the arrest of four men, three 18-year-olds and one 17-year-old, on Langelier Boulevard, near Villanelle Street, who were transported to the investigation center, where they will be met in the coming hours.
Three scenes were erected: the first on rue Saint-Zotique where the police officer was caught, the second on the parking lot of the Galeries d’Anjou and the last on the parking lot of the shopping center on boulevard Langelier, where the vehicle was abandoned.
At least one bullet hole was found on the suspect vehicle.
The investigation was transferred to the major crimes section of the SPVM and investigators were dispatched to the scene to understand the causes and circumstances of the event. A command post was also set up on Saint-Zotique Street.
