BMW i7: an electric version for the 7 Series

The current BMW 7 Series dates from the 2016 model year, making it the oldest sedan in its class, but its replacement is on the way.

The German manufacturer announces that the unveiling will take place around mid-April and, to whet our appetites, it offers us some images confirming that the seventh generation will have a bolder and more striking design. But above all, the range will be dominated by the fully electric i7.

As you can see, the huge grille affixed to some BMW models resurfaces here, sporting an illuminated surround and flanked by new, slimmed-down headlights. It looks a lot like the front of the iX electric crossover. Of course, it is to be expected that the petrol versions of the 7 Series and the one with electric motorization will have marked visual differences.

The passenger compartment will also impress, among other things with a curved digital interface as well as an interactive light bar on the dashboard and the doors. A large panoramic roof called Sky Lounge will also be available. However, the highlight of the show will be a cinematic 31-inch (32:9 aspect ratio) 8K resolution screen that extends from the ceiling and allows rear occupants to watch videos.

As for the technical details, we still have to wait, but we know that the i7 will be the most powerful representative of the new 7 Series and that its autonomy should amount to 491 kilometers according to EPA standards in the United States – nothing to worry the Tesla Model S and the Mercedes-Benz EQS, but significantly more than the Porsche Taycan and the Audi e-tron GT. Also, the 6.0-litre V12, present in the current 600-hp M760Li xDrive, will be dropped.

The Car Guide will give you all the details on the new BMW 7 Series and the electric i7 as well as a complete gallery of photos following the world premiere. It’s a date!
