Biden announces tentative agreement to avoid rail strike

(Washington) US rail companies and unions have reached “an agreement in principle” to prevent a major strike in the United States at the end of the week, President Joe Biden announced in a statement.

Posted at 6:16 a.m.

“The tentative agreement reached tonight is a significant victory for our economy and the American people,” said the statement, posted on the White House website.

“These rail workers will be better paid, get better working conditions and be able to have peace of mind about their health expenses, all of this hard won”, adds the text.

The US executive, which would have much to lose politically in the event of a strike disrupting travel and supply chains for US businesses less than two months before the midterm elections, has been heavily involved in preventing such a scenario comes true.
