Freedomthe title of the American megastar Beyoncé, will be the campaign anthem of Vice President Kamala Harris, who is well on her way to becoming the Democratic candidate for the American presidential election after Joe Biden withdrew from the presidential race. The information comes from the American channel CNN, to whom Kamala Harris’ entourage confirmed “that his team had obtained permission from Beyoncé’s representatives to use the song throughout her presidential campaign.”

It is on this song that the American vice-president “made a remarkable entrance during his first official visit to his campaign headquarters on Monday evening,” CNN reported. For the evening, his campaign team had asked permission from the artist, who is known for setting strict rules regarding the use of her music, CNN recalls.

By letting Kamala Harris use Freedom, A committed song from the album Lemonade (2016) which is just as committed, it is a tacit support that Beyoncé gives to the one who could be the first woman to access the highest office in the United States. The American singer has always supported Democratic presidential candidates. She sang the American national anthem at Barack Obama’s first inauguration in 2013 and supported Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton three years later. Beyoncé said at the time that her decision was motivated by her daughter. The singer wanted to show her that anything is possible for a woman.

The argument is even more valid for Kamala Harris, who is a black woman in a country where African-Americans continue to be second-class citizens. The ultra-conservative and authoritarian project, called “Project 2025”, that Republican candidate Donald Trump could implement, is a direct threat to them.

The first singer to show her support for Kamala Harris was British singer Charli XCX. She wrote on X that Kamala Harris was a “Brat,” a phrase taken from the title of her hit song that is a hit. Her post came shortly after Joe Biden announced his withdrawal. The term “Brat,” which has a specific meaning, refers here to the candidate’s likeable side. Which suits Kamala Harris’ campaign: Her team has decorated her account with the color green that is featured in the song’s music video Brat.

Several cultural figures, particularly African-Americans, are already mobilized around Kamala Harris’ candidacy. Like the actress Octavia Spencer (The colour of feelings), an early supporter. The recent outing of actor George Clooney in favor of the candidate confirms that Kamala Harris has a good part of Hollywood behind her. Just like Joe Biden, whom the same George Clooney had called to withdraw to give the Democrats and American democracy a chance to be saved in the face of the threat represented by Donald Trump.
