Faced with the social emergency and the continued rise in inflation, the government announced a bill dedicated to purchasing power on Tuesday, June 7.

Tuesday, June 7, the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, announced aid for the start of the school year, which would concern between three and five million households, to help them against inflation. The discount of 18 cents per liter of fuel will stop at the end of August. As for the tariff shield on energy, it will continue until the end of 2022. The inflation aid, set up at the start of the school year, will be accompanied, in the autumn, by aid for “big wheels”.

The food check, which should allow the French to access organic and local products, is still under consideration. For Anne-Sophie Alsif, chief economist at BDO France, the boost against inflation “will surely be understood, if it is in the form of aid, between 50 and 100 euros (…) in terms of costs for public finances, it will be quite significant”, she assures. Households with the lowest incomes will be given priority for this assistance. A purchasing power law will be unveiled after the legislative elections on 29 June.
