The Canoe Kayak Downhill World Championship in Treignac is over! The events took place from June 3 to 6, in this town of Corrèze. And for the organizers, it was a real success!
Despite the rain, between 5,000 and 6,000 spectators were present to attend the tests. “Everyone is satisfieddeclares the mayor of the town, Gérard Coignac. We had a lot of visitors all along the course, whether on the six-kilometre long course, or on Saturday’s sprints which took place in the heart of Treignac.”
It was all a great moment
And a special spectator was present, the former President of the Republic François Hollande came to watch the show, as well as hand over some medals. “And on Sunday evening, when the festivities closed with a fireworks display, we had about 2,000 people, count the aedile. It was all a great moment.”
This is the third time that Treignac has hosted the Canoe Kayak Downhill World Championships. The first time was in 1959, when the world championships in this discipline were created. The second, in 2000.
Towards the organization of fourth world championships in Treignac?
And why not a fourth time ? “We also had very good feedback from the representatives of the International Federation who have already more or less asked us to be candidates for other international events.smiles Stéphane Pradeau, the director of the organizing committee of the event. We don’t yet know when. Here, we have the infrastructure. And today, we have an organization team that is still well versed in the management of these major international competitions.”
And for this world championship in Treignac, the French men and women shone! They won 21 medals, including nine gold and seven silver.
