Popcaan, the singjay most prominent Jamaican on the international scene, offered at Christmas his second album of the year, the unequal Best Mood. Much more interesting and coherent in terms of musical productions compared to Great Is He published in January 2023, but distressing in terms of the themes covered. For a jovial title song full of hope followed by a Work, Set It — its rhythm (signed FaNaTiX) derived from the classic Poco Man Jam (1989) by Steely & Clevie will have its effect in dances – how many others let us hear an artist obsessed with female sexual organs? Pussy here, pussythat way, after Always Welcomed And Freaky Gyal (a production signed DD Skull, his old accomplice) heard at the start of the album, we are already tired… Too bad, since over the course of these fifteen songs, Popcaan’s pinched and melancholy voice explores grooves more daring, on Wildin (with Vory) and the menacing Beretta (with TWO), for example, where the percussions, delicate and nervous, breathe fresh ideas into dancehall.
