The head of American diplomacy, Anthony Blinken, arrived in Israel on Tuesday April 30, to try to obtain a 40-day truce with Hamas in exchange for the release of 33 hostages held in Gaza. The Israeli state asked the Palestinian organization to deliver a response before the evening of May 1. In the midst of negotiations, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nevertheless assures that he wants to enter Rafah, in the south of the Palestinian enclave.
Maintain the state of war
According to Guillaume Ancel, former officer and writer, author of the blog “Ne pas être”, the head of the Israeli government is playing the game of ambiguity. “If Benjamin Netanyahu wanted to torpedo the proposed agreement with Hamas, he would not do it any other way”he judges. “We have the impression that he is doing everything to keep Hamas going” and that he is doing everything to avoid emerging from a state of war, adds the Middle East specialist.
Benyamin Netanyahu claims to want to put an end to the last battalions of Hamas, which would be located in the city of Rafah, but the former officer specifies that the Palestinian organization does not have a structured army. “When he tries to make us believe that the Hamas headquarters now would be in Rafah (…) he is lying to his society and he is lying to the whole world”.
